โ๏ธ SpaceX Just Flew the World's First Commercial Nuclear Satellite Into Orbit
On July 7, a SpaceX Falcon 9 launched 81 payloads on the Transporter-17 rideshare from Vandenberg โ including BOHR, a betavoltaic CubeSat powered by nuclear decay and the first commercial nuclear satellite ever to reach orbit. The mission also carried three FireSat wildfire-detection satellites built for the Earth Fire Alliance. The booster landed on the droneship "Of Course I Still Love You" 8.5 minutes after liftoff. What doors does a long-lived nuclear-powered CubeSat open for space tech?
