NASA just handed out nearly $590 million โ to Astrobotic ($297.9M), Intuitive Machines ($148.3M), and Firefly Aerospace ($144.2M) โ for four commercial cargo landings on the Moon in late 2028, all aimed at laying groundwork for a permanent lunar base. Every mission will carry the same trio of instruments: cameras studying landing dust plumes, laser reflectors for precision navigation, and radiation spectrometers to map the surface environment.
