๐ง Scientists found the brain cells that fire harder the closer you are to giving up
A Nagoya University study published this week in PNAS found that orexin neurons ramp up activity in direct proportion to how hard you work to earn a reward โ and keep firing when an expected reward fails to arrive. Knocking out these neurons in rats caused them to quit tasks much sooner. Since orexin dysfunction is already linked to depression, ADHD, and addiction, this could open new paths to treating motivational disorders. Would you want a drug that could tune your perseverance on demand?
